You must not stop drinking suddenly if you think you are physically dependent on alcohol. So if you think you might be dependent on alcohol, How to Drink Mindfully AF in Hospitality is not for you. Who’s behind the course?

The short answer? The Club Soda community.

The longer answer? How to Drink Mindfully AF in Hospitality has been developed by Dru Jaeger, one of the co-founders of Club Soda and the lead author of How to Be a Mindful Drinker. Dru is a writer, researcher, facilitator and coach with more than a decade of experience in healthcare policy – and he’s a mindful drinker who drinks little and occasionally. But the course isn’t his work alone. It includes contributions from other members of the Club Soda team, including Laura Willoughby, Club Soda’s founder, and Anja Madhvani, who writes for Club Soda and who also works in the industry. And most importantly, it draws on our research into the experiences of the many Club Soda members who become mindful drinkers. You’ll find their encouraging quotes throughout the course, as well as some of their stories of how they changed their drinking. 

Is this course about meditation?

How to Drink Mindfully AF in Hospitality draws on many of the core ideas of mindfulness, encouraging you to pay attention to yourself and the world around you, to treat yourself with kindness and to take a more conscious and deliberate approach to living. So this course is fundamentally about helping you increase your awareness of your relationship with alcohol. But it’s not a meditation course.

You might want to take up a formal meditation practice alongside the course, but there’s no requirement to do so. Mindfulness meditation can be a useful tool to deepen your awareness, and it has been shown to support long-term recovery and wellbeing. If you want to explore mindfulness practices in more depth, you can join our weekly Breathing Space online meditation and discussion group. Look out for invitations to the Breathing Space once you’ve joined the course.
