Latest from the Government – Roundtable
June 30 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm BST
We have received an update via the Portman Group on various regulatory issues and we are arranging a special roundtable to discuss these. David Saer from the Portman Group will be attending to hear your views and add more details where necessary.
The consultation on whether 0.5% drinks can be labelled “alcohol-free” and other proposals is coming soon.
Department of Health is looking for evidence of the potential economic impact of its proposals on the industry – especially any areas where the industry anticipates a cost. They are considering whether they need to conduct an impact assessment.
3. Industry action and targets for 2025 objective
Department of Health is asking for industry input on potential ‘challenging’ targets for 2025 – i.e. sales growth divided by product category. However, they recognise the current technical difficulties surrounding wine.
4. Portman Group Code of Practice to include alcohol replacement drinks under 0.5% ABV
Department of Health has raised the prospect of extending the Portman Group Code of Practice to cover low and no products, with a desire to see low/no products held to the same standards as regular strength products.
Department of Health has concerns that this was a ‘regulatory blindspot’ with the ASA and highlight concerns around low/no adverts featuring driving or in the office.
A Club Soda brand members roundtable will allow us to discuss these developments – Laura is a member of the Portman Group’s Low and No Forum, and will represent your views there. If you want to join Club Soda’s brand membership you can find more details here.
