The story of Bax starts with founders Chris the Chef and Rose the plant expert. When they first met, they bonded over the beauty of the natural world with Rose sharing her knowledge of the plants they’d find whilst out walking. A little research later, Chris found himself with a whole new range of flavours to play with in the kitchen. Nature had begun to inspire Chris’ cooking in a whole new way. Then came time to put down some roots, and the couple bought themselves a woodland. It was in this woodland that they began running outdoor courses to ‘Taste the Wild’. The courses covered foraging and cooking with wild plants, all with the aim of inspiring guests to find a deeper connection with nature.
Rose and Chris would showcase the various ways of harnessing and celebrating the unique flavours of their woodland through both food and drink, and it was within these first drinks that the idea for Bax Botanics was born. A range of shrubs, preserves, and eventually non-alcoholic spirits were served. After discovering an Organic, Fairtrade herb supplier and every other possible way of creating an eco-friendly, sustainable product, Bax Botanics launched in 2019 with two flavours. Both spirits are distilled in small batches.
