When your partner drinks (and you are trying not to!)
Relationships are difficult whether you are drinking or not, and even more so when your partner drinks and you’re trying not to. Your changing relationship with alcohol may challenge those closest to you, or even expose how much of the time you spend with intimate partners is alcohol fuelled. Dealing with this rather than sulking in the other room is really important and best done with a clear head! It is also a useful self-care distraction that will build your resilience. In this week’s webinar we cover:
- Asking for what you need
- Planning the conversation and the ways your partner can help
- Changes you make to help your goals don’t have to be permanent
- Reminding yourself of the benefits of not-drinking to your relationship
- Finding support from others
- What to do when they are drunk
You may find this book – The Dance of Intimacy useful (whatever your gender) and this article on difficult conversations.
