Nine Elms

Nine Elms take an interesting approach to creating their wine alternative. Rather than creating a wine and removing the alcohol, they reverse engineer the process. They think about the end flavour profile and then work with fruits and botanicals to create the desired flavour. Nine Elms use 4 dark berries, one of which is the Aronia berry, which has a tannic character that you would expect to find in a glass of red wine. They also use black cherry, blackcurrant, and red grape. They then aromatise this juice, adding 20 botanicals to add complexity, including pink peppercorns, gentian, and angelica. The result is a well-balanced, sophisticated wine alternative, which holds its own against food or makes for happy sipping on its own. You can drink this neat over ice, mix with tonic water, or even try making one of the cocktail recipes from the Nine Elms website.

Twelve Below tonic

We’ve included some Twelve Below in this months box, so you can experiment with mixing drinks to meet your personal preference. This is going to be particularly interesting to try with your bottle of Nine Elms, which can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. Twelve Below make a number of different tonics and use some creative flavour combinations including apple and garden mint, and pear and cardamom. They are just as enjoyable as stand-alone drinks as they are when used as mixers.

ARIEL Chardonnay

ARIEL Chardonnay is a dealcoholised wine with tropical fruit character and subtle oak from barrel ageing. It has a distinctive combination of buttery apple and butterscotch flavours, combined with a toasty French oak bouquet. This is a wine that will continue to develop complexity as it ages. It is perfect for pairing with creamy dishes, fish recipes, and light chicken dishes.

José Maria da Fonseca Original Syrah Alcohol Free Rosé Wine

This rose is produced from the grape variety Syrah and is fermented at low temperatures. The alcohol is then gently removed, leaving behind a wine with a delicate aroma and flavour. Spicy red fruit tea, blueberry, and currant aroma lead to a fresh, crunchy flavour of berries with bright acidity. Best served chilled.

We hope you’re looking forward to joining us for the August Wine Club. If your interests extend beyond non-alcoholic wine and you’d like to find more of the best alcohol-free drinks, head to Wise Bartender.
