Expanding beyond wine for Christmas

A few years ago it would have been incredibly difficult to find anything special to drink without alcohol. When it comes to wine, the situation was even worse. But two things have changed, and now is a good time to a wine-drinker who doesn’t always want alcohol: de-alcoholised wines have got much, much better, and some really fabulous alternatives have sprung up. This month is special, and a little different, as we’ve got two very premium alternatives to wine, plus an excellent de-alc version.

jing sparkling tea

Jing Jasmine Pearls Sparkling Tea

Jing Tea is a serious producer of single garden teas, and it’s fantastic news that they have decided to produce a sparkling, cold-brewed version of their Jasmine Pearls. With absolutely no sugar, this is an incredibly elegant, pure and utterly sophisticated drink. It’s an outstanding drink, and not like anything else I’ve tasted.

Holos Sparkling Oolong

Most of you have realised that I love premium Kombucha: it’s just such a wonderful drink, and especially good if you are looking to replace the wine in your fridge. Holos make a particularly rich and flavour-filled version of Kombucha: the Oolong base really works for this time of year. It’s made in West Sussex and on top of being a great product, it has a fantastic social purpose: supporting survivors of modern slavery. I think that makes it a particularly lovely drink for the ‘season of goodwill’.

Sparkling Oolong can be purchased at holoskombucha.com, Planet Organic stores and Farm Drop from £11.99

The Very Cautious One Shiraz

The Very Cautious One Shiraz

After the success of The Very Cautious One Gewurztraminer / Riesling white in the subscription box a few months back, I was very keen to get hold of the Shiraz. It turns out to be a really charming, fruity and fragrant red, with real class.  We’ve had a few Syrah / Shiraz based wines in the box now, and it’s clear this is a grape that can cope extremely well with having the alcohol removed, and still keep its own authentic character.

The Very Cautious One can be bought at Wise Bartender for £5.99

Cut off date for ordering this month’s Win Club box is 16 November. Any subscriptions started after that date will be for the following month’s box. Please note, the contents of our subscription boxes are subject to change. Some brands are experiencing difficulties with procurement of packaging and delays at customs which may lead to alterations. We will always aim to swap for similar products. Please read the terms and conditions on Wise Bartender.
